The Call to Truth
Allah chose Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) to guide people back to the worship of their Creator. His mission was not only to teach belief in Allah but also to restore honesty, justice, and compassion within society.
As communities grew, so did the desire for wealth and power. Many people became increasingly attached to worldly success while neglecting their responsibilities toward Allah and one another. The strong often exploited the weak, dishonesty became more common, and moral values slowly declined.
Prophet Idris (A.S.) reminded his people that this world was never meant to be their permanent home. Every blessing they enjoyed was a trust from Allah, and every action would one day be judged.
His message was simple yet powerful: worship Allah alone, speak the truth, deal fairly with others, and prepare for the life to come.
A Teacher of Knowledge and Character
Beyond calling people to faith, Prophet Idris (A.S.) encouraged them to seek knowledge and live disciplined lives.
According to early Islamic historical reports, he emphasized the importance of learning, recording knowledge, and maintaining order in daily affairs. These narrations are found in traditional historical literature, although the Qur'an and authentic hadith do not provide these details explicitly.
Whether teaching through words or personal example, Prophet Idris (A.S.) demonstrated that faith and knowledge should always go together. A believer should strive to improve both spiritually and intellectually.
He also showed the dignity of lawful work. Historical reports mention that he earned his livelihood through his own efforts, reminding people that honest work is a source of honor rather than weakness.
A Life Devoted to Allah
One of the defining qualities of Prophet Idris (A.S.) was his deep devotion to worship.
Historical narrations describe him as someone who spent much of his time remembering Allah, praying sincerely, and remaining grateful for every blessing. Although these descriptions are not detailed in the Qur'an or authentic hadith, they reflect how early Muslim scholars viewed his remarkable piety.
His heart remained attached to Allah even when many people around him ignored the divine message.
This unwavering faith became the foundation of his mission.
The People's Response
As with nearly every prophet, not everyone welcomed the message.
Some people listened carefully and accepted the truth. They recognized the wisdom in his words and chose to reform their lives.
Others, however, refused to change.
Those who benefited from injustice feared losing their influence. Pride prevented many from accepting guidance, even when they knew it was right.
Throughout history, the greatest obstacle to faith has often been arrogance rather than a lack of evidence.
Despite the rejection, Prophet Idris (A.S.) remained patient.
He never abandoned his mission, never responded to hostility with injustice, and continued inviting people with wisdom and sincerity.
His trust remained firmly in Allah.
A Legacy Built on Patience
True success in the sight of Allah is not measured by wealth, popularity, or worldly achievements.
Prophet Idris (A.S.) teaches us that lasting success comes through truthfulness, patience, sincere worship, and unwavering faith.
Although only a limited number of verses in the Qur'an mention him, those verses reveal a man whose honesty and devotion earned him an extraordinary place in Islamic history.
Yet the most remarkable event in his life was still to come.
The Qur'an tells us that Allah raised him to "a high station."
What exactly does this mean?
Was he physically raised to the heavens, or does the verse refer to his elevated spiritual rank?
